Ran down the coast this morning with a group of local regulars eager to get in on the bite at Bird Rock, hoping the the forecast NW wind would hold off for one more day.
My son, Aaron, prepared the baits and gear as we neared yesterday's hotspot. We set the lines and soon had three big salmon ripping line off the reels. We boated a 20# and a 30# fish, but the hook pulled on the third, which appeared to be even larger.
The gear was reset and we soon hooked and landed three more 20 to 30 lb kings.
The bite slowed after that, but by 3:00 we had 12 in the box, 7 of them were in that same, 20 to 30 lb class.
