Today I took a group of five anglers up the coast to catch the morning bite at Arched Rock.
Their eagerness to try ther hand at salmon trolling was tempered by thick morning fog and six foot seas that made for a long, tense ride.
We set the lines in 45' of water 1/4 mile from the rocks and less than that from several other trollers, all hidden by the mist.
The salmon had crowded schools of herring and anchovy against the shore and we took turns swinging in close enough to get bit, then out to more open water to play and land the fish before turning back toward shore.
The sea grew calmer and the salmon more aggressive as the morning went on. The fish hot, jumping clear of the water and making fast, unpredictable runs. Several managed to throw the hook but by 11:00 we had boxed our limitsof 6 to 18 lb fish.

These are the good ol' days
